Anyone who reads comic books knows instinctually that every character has an origin -- some defining moment in her/his life that makes them what they are today. Bruce Wayne watched his parents get killed and became Batman. Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and became Spiderman.

I've wondered for some time now what it was that created Brian. Brian, without complaint, joylessly spreads the Truth that Cheom is God. This is not a happy revelation for Brian (or for anyone else), because as far as Brian can determine, Cheom is not bound by such trivialities as "Human Decency" and so on. Cheom is truly the Deus Irae, but more fickle, and Brian is It's chosen Prophet, much to his dismay.
